Gum disease affects almost everyone at some stage in their lives. It is one of the leading cause of tooth loss in the world but can be totally preventable if gums and teeth are looked after properly.

At Orchard House Dental Practice our dedicated oral hygiene therapists encourage all our patients to book regular appointments throughout the year in order to carry out the necessary gum and teeth health checks.

Gum disease can develop quickly and if left untreated can lead to a number of problem such as bad breath (halitosis), bleeding gums and the eventual loss of teeth.

Otherwise known as Gingivitis, gum disease is caused by the build up of bacteria on the base of the tooth just along the gum line. This is called plaque which eventually turns into tartar when hardened. This will then infect the gums, making them inflamed and sore.

Our oral hygiene treatments are designed to remove any deposits, plaque and check for any bleeding of your gums. We will also provide dietary advise as well as show you how to take care of your teeth and gums on a daily basis. Before your appointment is complete, we will polish your teeth leaving your smile feeling shiny and new.
